It’s a little cramped on this screen (especially if you are used to a laptop or desktop screen), but I’m making it work.
You know what they say, “necessity is the mother of invention.” And by necessity, I mean laziness. And by invention, I mean finding a way to do everything from my phone so I don’t have to get up off the couch.

Continue readingWelcome to the ultimate guide to starting a blog! If you’ve been sitting on the fence about starting your own blog, then look no further.
I’ve compiled a list of the best reasons to finally take the plunge and start sharing your thoughts, experiences, and musings with the internet.
Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Blogging? That’s so 2010. Who cares about blogs anymore?” Well, you’d be surprised.
Blogging is still very much alive and well, and there are plenty of good reasons to start your own.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into our list of the top reasons to start blogging. Just a heads up, I’ll be using a healthy dose of humor and sarcasm throughout because let’s be real, blogging can be a ridiculous and amusing pursuit. But hey, that’s part of the fun!
So sit back, relax, and get ready to be convinced that starting a blog is the best decision you’ll make all year (or at least until you decide to start a podcast).
1. Improve your writing skills
Alright, let’s dive into the first reason on our list: improving your writing skills. Now, if you’re already a literary genius and your words flow onto the page like a graceful river of gold, then feel free to skip this section. But if, like the rest of us mortals, you sometimes struggle to string together a coherent sentence, then listen up!
Blogging is basically like a personal writing workshop that you get to run yourself. Every time you sit down to write a post, you’re practicing your craft and getting a little bit better. Plus, the more you write, the easier it becomes. It’s like a weird, reverse writer’s block.
But it’s not just about quantity, it’s also about quality. As you write more, you’ll start to develop your own voice and style. You’ll figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. You’ll learn how to structure your posts, how to use dialogue, and how to vary your sentence length.
Basically, you’ll become a writing machine.
Now, I know what you might be thinking: “But I don’t want to be a writer! I just want to start a blog for fun.” No problem! The beauty of blogging is that you get to choose your own topic, so you can write about whatever interests you.
And even if you’re just writing about your cat’s daily adventures, you’ll still be improving your writing skills. Trust me, Fluffy’s adventures are way more exciting when they’re written in a clear and concise manner.
So, in short, if you want to improve your writing skills (and who doesn’t?), then starting a blog is a great way to do it. Plus, it’s super fun and satisfying to see your words out there in the big, wide world.
2. Share your knowledge and expertise
Now, I know you might be thinking: “But I’m not an expert on anything! I’m just a regular person with regular thoughts and regular experiences.” Well, that’s exactly the point.
You don’t have to be a world-renowned scientist or a highly skilled tradesperson to have valuable knowledge to share. In fact, some of the most successful bloggers are just everyday people with unique perspectives or insights on a particular topic.
Think about it: what are you passionate about? What do you enjoy talking about with your friends or family?
Chances are, you have a wealth of knowledge and expertise on that subject, whether it’s cooking, parenting, DIY projects, or something else entirely.
So, if you’re feeling a little intimidated by the idea of sharing your knowledge and expertise, just remember that you don’t have to be an “expert” in the traditional sense.
You just have to be willing to share what you know and be open to learning from others.
You might be wondering, “But why would anyone want to read what I have to say? There are already so many blogs out there on every topic imaginable.”
Well, that’s exactly the beauty of it. There are billions of people on the internet, and there’s a good chance that at least a few of them will be interested in what you have to say.
Plus, with all the noise out there, it can be refreshing to read something that feels genuine and authentic, rather than another generic, cookie-cutter blog post.
So, in short, if you have something to say and you’re not afraid to say it, then starting a blog is a great way to share your knowledge and expertise with the world.
3. Connect with like-minded people
Alright, let’s move on to the third reason on our list: connecting with like-minded people.
You might be thinking that you have plenty of friends already! or wondering why you need to connect with more people. Well, sometimes it’s nice to have friends who share your specific interests and passions.
Plus, the internet is a vast and wonderful place, and there are likely people out there who share your love of your niche that you haven’t met yet.
Starting a blog can be a great way to connect with others who share your interests and passions. Not only will you be able to share your thoughts and experiences with a wider audience, but you’ll also be able to read and learn from others who are interested in the same things as you.
And let’s be real, sometimes it can be hard to find like-minded people in your everyday life. Maybe you live in a small town where no one cares about your niche, or maybe you just haven’t met anyone who shares your interests yet.
Whatever the reason, starting a blog can be a great way to find and connect with others who share your passions.
Now, you might be thinking that when starting a blog you will be talking to yourself. And at the beginning that might be true. However, what you are forgetting is the comment section.
Most blogs have a section where readers can leave comments and engage with the blogger. So, not only will you be able to share your thoughts with the world, but you’ll also be able to have discussions and conversations with others who are interested in your blog’s topic.
So, in short, if you’re looking to connect with like-minded people and share your interests and passions with a wider audience, then starting a blog is a great way to do it.
4. Build your personal brand
Alright, let’s move on to the fourth reason on our list: building your personal brand. Now, I know what you might be thinking: “But I’m not a brand! I’m just a person with thoughts and feelings and stuff.” However, we all have a personal brand, whether you realize it or not.
Your personal brand is essentially the way that others perceive you, based on your actions, words, and online presence.
Starting a blog can be a great way to build and strengthen your personal brand. It allows you to share your thoughts, experiences, and insights with a wider audience and can help you establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry or area of expertise.
Your personal brand doesn’t have to be all about expertise. It can be about your unique perspective and the way that you approach life and the world around you.
So, if you’re looking to build your personal brand and establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry or area of expertise, then starting a blog is a great way to do it.
Plus, it’s a lot of fun! Who doesn’t love sharing their thoughts and experiences with the world?
5. Generate income
You might be thinking that you just want to start a blog for fun! Maybe you don’t even care about making money. If so that’s totally fine.
But, if you’re open to the idea of potentially making some money from your blog, then read on!
Starting a blog can be a great way to generate income through advertising, sponsored content, and selling products or services related to your blog’s topic. And don’t worry, you don’t have to turn into a sleazy salesman to make some money either.
There are plenty of ways to monetize your blog without sacrificing its integrity or authenticity.
For example, you could sign up for a program like Google AdSense and display targeted ads on your blog. Or, you could work with companies to create sponsored content that aligns with your blog’s topic and your audience.
Or, you could even sell products or services related to your blog’s topic, such as ebooks, courses, or physical products.
One thing that you should keep in mind is that making any sort of decent income from your blog requires some work. You have to do keyword research, write good content, and get people to actually come to your website.
There’s no denying that building a successful blog that generates income takes time, effort, and dedication. But, if you’re willing to put in the work and be consistent, then it is definitely possible to make some money from your blog.
6. Improve your digital skills
Digital skills are becoming more important all of the time. But even if you aren’t a super techy person you can still be a blogger and learn tons of important skills along the way.
Starting a blog can actually be a great way to improve your digital skills, as you’ll be working with various online tools and platforms to create and manage your blog. You’ll learn how to use a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, how to design and customize your blog’s appearance, and how to use social media and other online platforms to promote and grow your blog.
Although all that you need to learn can seem incredibly daunting at the beginning (and it will be) don’t get too overwhelmed. You can (and will learn) these skills one at a time and you will even get better as you continue to use the skills that you have already learned.
The beauty of blogging is that you can learn as you go. There are plenty of resources out there to help you get started, and you can always learn new skills and techniques as your blog grows and evolves.
7. Express yourself creatively
Creativity comes in many forms. You don’t have to be a great writer or artist to express yourself creatively through your blog.
Starting a blog can be a great outlet for creativity, as you can express yourself through writing, design, and other mediums. You can share your thoughts and experiences through writing, or you can use your blog as a platform to showcase your photography, art, or other creative pursuits.
The possibilities are endless!
One fear that many new bloggers have is that no one will like what they actually create. But here’s the thing… you will have people that don’t like it!
And that’s okay.
Creativity is subjective. Not everyone is going to like or appreciate everything that you create, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The important thing is that you’re expressing yourself and having fun in the process.
So, if you’re looking for a fun and rewarding outlet for your creativity, then starting a blog is a great way to do it. Plus, who knows, you might even discover a new talent or passion that you didn’t know you had.
Final Thoughts
And there you have it, folks! My ultimate guide to starting a blog, complete with seven reasons to take the plunge and share your thoughts, experiences, and musings with the internet.
I hope that this guide has convinced you that starting a blog is a fantastic idea. Whether you want to improve your writing skills, share your knowledge and expertise, connect with like-minded people, build your personal brand, generate income, improve your digital skills, or express yourself creatively, there’s a reason on this list for everyone.
So, if you’ve been sitting on the fence about starting your own blog, then what are you waiting for? The internet is waiting for your unique perspective and voice!
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re either super excited to start your own blog or you’ve come across some people on Youtube who claim it’s amazing and you wonder what it actually involves.
Either way, congratulations on choosing one of the most tedious, time-consuming, and thankless hobbies out there (okay it isn’t all that bad).
Now, before we dive into the nitty-gritty of blogging, let’s define exactly what it is. A blog is a website where an individual or group of individuals share their thoughts, opinions, musings, and random observations with the rest of the world.
Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong.
Blogging is a lot more than just spilling your guts onto a screen and hitting publish. It’s a full-time job (well, almost) that requires creativity, discipline, and a whole lot of caffeine. But don’t worry, it’s totally worth it when you get that one comment from your mom saying how proud she is of you. (or make your first dollar from ads or affiliates).
There are many different types of blogs out there, ranging from personal blogs to business blogs to niche blogs about everything from fashion to politics to cat memes. The sky is the limit when it comes to what you can blog about, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed, just remember that you can always start a blog about how much you hate blogging.
Trust me, there’s an audience for that.
So, why would anyone want to start a blog in the first place? Well, some people do it as a creative outlet or as a way to connect with like-minded individuals. Others do it to make money (more on that later). And some do it just to annoy their friends and family with endless posts about their latest meal or vacation.
Whatever your reason may be, just know that blogging is not for the faint of heart. But hey, at least you’ll have a platform to complain about how much you hate it.
Determine your niche
Ah, the ever-elusive niche. This is where things start to get a little more serious in the world of blogging.
You see, as much as we’d like to think that everyone in the world is dying to read our thoughts on politics, fashion, or the latest celebrity gossip, the reality is that most people just don’t care. So, it’s important to narrow down your focus and find a niche that is specific enough to attract a dedicated audience, but not so specific that you run out of things to say.
Now, finding your niche is easier said than done. Some people seem to know exactly what they want to blog about from the get-go, while others (like me) spent hours brainstorming ideas and still come up with nothing.
But don’t worry, there are a few tried and true methods for finding your niche.
First, think about what you’re passionate about. Do you love cooking? Traveling? Knitting? Whatever it is, there’s probably an audience for it.
Just make sure it’s something you can talk about for hours on end without wanting to pull your hair out.
Next, do some research.
Look at what other successful bloggers in your field are doing and see if there’s a gap in the market that you could fill. Don’t be afraid to borrow ideas, but make sure to put your own spin on things and make them unique.
Finally, don’t be afraid to try something a little outside the box. There are blogs about everything under the sun, so if you have a quirky interest or hobby, go for it!
Just be prepared for the fact that you might not have a huge audience right off the bat.
So, to sum it up, finding your niche is all about figuring out what you’re passionate about, doing your research, and being a little bit daring. And if all else fails, you can always just start a blog about how hard it is to find a niche.
Trust me, there’s an audience for that too.
Choose a blogging platform
Congratulations, you’ve made it through the grueling process of finding your niche! Now it’s time to move on to the next exciting step: choosing a blogging platform.
For those of you who don’t know, a blogging platform is a software that powers your blog and makes it all possible. It’s like the foundation of a house – you want it to be solid and reliable, but also easy to use and customize.
There are tons of different blogging platforms out there, each with its own set of features and benefits. Some of the most popular ones include WordPress, Blogger, and Squarespace.
Now, choosing the right platform can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re new to blogging. That’s why I’m here to offer some helpful (and possibly sarcastic) advice.
First things first, do some research.
Look at what other bloggers in your field are using and see what works for them. You can also check out reviews and comparisons online to get a better sense of what each platform has to offer.
Next, consider your budget. Some platforms are free to use, while others charge a fee for certain features or services.
Make sure to weigh the costs and benefits of each option to find the one that’s right for you.
Finally, don’t be afraid to try out a few different platforms to see what works best for you. Most of them offer free trials or demos, so you can test-drive them before making a commitment.
Start writing and creating content
Well, you’ve made it this far – you’ve found your niche, chosen a blogging platform, and survived the terrifying process of setting up your blog. Now it’s time to start writing and creating content.
Don’t get too excited yet, though. Writing and creating content is not as easy as it sounds.
It’s not just about throwing a bunch of words together and hoping for the best. It’s about crafting compelling, informative, and entertaining posts that your readers will actually want to read.
So, where do you start? First things first, come up with a plan. Determine how often you want to post, what types of content you want to create (e.g. blog posts, videos, podcasts, etc.), and what topics you want to cover.
It’s also a good idea to create an editorial calendar to help you stay organized and on track.
Next, it’s time to start writing. This is where the real work begins.
Whether you’re a natural-born wordsmith or a complete novice, there are a few things you should keep in mind as you create your content.
First, focus on your audience. Who are you writing for? What do they want to read? What problems or questions do they have that you can help solve or answer?
Next, be clear and concise. No one wants to read a long-winded, rambling post. Get to the point and make it easy for your readers to understand and follow.
Finally, use images, videos, and other media to enhance your content. A picture is worth a thousand words, and videos and podcasts can make your blog more interactive and engaging.
Promote your blog
Congratulations, you’re a full-fledged blogger! You’ve got your niche, your platform, and your content all figured out.
Now it’s time to promote your blog and get it out there for the world to see.
But before you start shouting your blog’s URL from the rooftops, there are a few things you should consider. First, who is your target audience? Who do you want to read your blog?
This will help you determine the best way to promote it.
Next, what are your goals? Do you want to drive traffic to your blog? Increase your social media following? Make money?
Knowing your goals will help you focus your efforts and determine the most effective strategies for promoting your blog.
Now, let’s talk about some of the ways you can promote your blog. One of the most obvious (and annoying) ways is to spam your social media followers with constant links to your latest posts. Just kidding (kind of).
But seriously, social media is a great way to promote your blog and connect with your audience. Just don’t overdo it.
Another option is to guest post on other blogs or websites. This can help expose your blog to a new audience and establish you as an expert in your field.
Just make sure to do your research and find blogs that are relevant to your niche and have a similar style and tone.
Finally, don’t be afraid to reach out to other bloggers or influencers in your field. Networking can be a powerful tool for promoting your blog and building relationships in the blogging community.
Monetize your blog
Well, you’ve finally made it. You’ve found your niche, chosen a platform, created some killer content, and promoted your blog to the best of your ability. And now, you’re ready to make some cold, hard cash.
It’s time to monetize your blog.
But before you start printing dollar bills with your face on them, there are a few things you should consider. First, make sure your blog is ready for monetization.
This means having a decent amount of traffic, a solid brand and reputation, and a clear understanding of your target audience.
Next, decide on your monetization strategy.
There are several ways to monetize a blog, including advertising, sponsored content, affiliate marketing, and selling your own products or services. Each has its own set of pros and cons, so it’s important to weigh the options and find the one that works best for you.
Now, let’s talk about some of the most common monetization methods.
Advertising is probably the most straightforward way to make money from your blog. You can sell ad space on your site to companies or use ad networks like Google AdSense to display ads on your site.
Just make sure not to overdo it – no one wants to visit a blog that’s plastered with ads.
Sponsored content is another option. This is when a company pays you to write a post about its product or service. Just make sure to disclose that the post is sponsored and be honest about your experience with the product.
Affiliate marketing is another way to monetize your blog.
This is when you promote a company’s products on your site and earn a commission for every sale made through your referral. Just make sure to do your research and only promote products that are relevant to your audience and align with your values.
Finally, you can sell your own products or services on your blog. This can be anything from e-books and courses to consulting services or physical products. Just make sure you have a solid marketing plan and a clear understanding of your target market.
Continue learning and improving
Congratulations, you’re a bonafide blogging pro! You’ve found your niche, chosen a platform, created some amazing content, promoted your blog, and even made some money.
But the journey doesn’t stop there. In the world of blogging, there’s always room for improvement.
First things first, keep up with industry trends and best practices. The world of blogging is constantly evolving, so it’s important to stay up to date on the latest techniques and technologies.
This can help you stay ahead of the game and make your blog the best it can be.
Next, get feedback from your readers. Ask for comments, reviews, and suggestions on your blog and social media channels.
This can help you identify areas for improvement and give you a better understanding of what your readers want to see.
Finally, don’t be afraid to try new things. Experiment with different types of content, formats, and strategies to see what works best for you and your blog. And don’t be afraid to fail – it’s all part of the learning process.
Final Thoughts
Well, that’s it! You’re officially a blogging expert. Or at least, you will be once you’ve gone through all the tedious, time-consuming, and thankless steps of starting a blog.
But hey, at least you’ll have a platform to complain about it.
In all seriousness, starting a blog can be a challenging and rewarding experience. It takes time, effort, and a whole lot of coffee, but the sense of accomplishment and connection you can get from it is worth it.
Just remember to find your niche, choose the right platform, create killer content, promote your blog, monetize it (if that’s your thing), and continue learning and improving.
And most importantly, have fun! Blogging should be a passion, not a chore. So go out there and share your thoughts, opinions, musings, and random observations with the world.
Trying to pick a niche is something that many new bloggers struggle with. Often a new blogger will spend hours, days, or weeks agonizing over what niche to choose.
And sometimes they will spend so long worrying about picking a niche that they won’t start for months or years, always trying to learn more so they can “get started right”.
So if this is you let me help you out a bit. Here is the absolute best niche that you should choose for your blog.
The best niche for your blog is… something you already do.
Matt R.
It doesn’t matter what it is. It doesn’t matter how good you are at it. All that matters is that it is something that you do all of the time that you can share stories, mistakes, successes, and failures, about.
I have this website about blogging/writing because I actually write normally and have done so for almost 3 years. I write about blogging because I’ve owned multiple blogs for 2 ½ years now.
Pick a niche that you know
Picking a niche that you actually know something about to blog/write about is invaluable as a blogger. It can literally mean the difference between success and failure.
- When you know a niche your writing will be far faster and much easier.
- When you know a niche you will be able to share little tips and tricks with your readers that most people wouldn’t know.
- When you know a niche you can share personal stories from that niche.
These things (and more) will allow your articles to be much more readable and will also help your readers to tell that you know what you are talking about.
When you don’t know much (or anything) about a niche your writing about that niche will come off as bland and boring. It will also come off as uneducated to the people who are ingrained in the niche as they will be able to tell that you don’t know what you are talking about.
Take my writing about blogging as an example.
If I were to write an article talking about how you can’t make any real money with display ads, people who are in the industry would know that I have no idea what I was talking about.
But since I’ve been in the industry for almost 3 years I know that you can make really good money by putting ads on your blog site, especially when your blog is big enough to get in the major players like Mediavine and Adthrive.
When you aren’t actually in a niche you won’t know a lot of little things about it. And not knowing those little things can add up to a massive loss of credibility with your readers.
Pick a niche that you won’t mind writing about for a long time
All of us know and are involved in many different niches. I’m currently sitting in bed writing this article on my iPhone while Criminal Minds streams on Hulu on my TV in the background.
That right there is a ton of different niches I could choose from:
- Writing
- iPhones
- Apple
- Smartphones
- Tv
- Tv shows
- Criminal minds
- Hulu
- Streaming
- Soundbar
- Bed
- Pillow
- Blanket
Now all of those would be niches that I could write about but most of them wouldn’t be very good as they aren’t something that I would want to write about for a long time.
I absolutely love writing about writing/blogging. I get to share everything that I’ve learned over the last 3 years and also get to explain new tests that I’m actively working on with my blogs.
When choosing a niche you need to find something that is like that for you.
Maybe you are an absolute movie buff and you go to see every single new movie in a specific genre when it’s released. You could certainly start a blog about that (although it might not be very evergreen).
Maybe you love playing guitar and taught yourself how to play over the last few years. You could absolutely start a blog about that and share your knowledge.
Ultimately you have to find something that you actively participate in, that you know at least something about, and that you would enjoy writing at least a decent amount about.
Can I tell you another secret about niches?
Don’t be afraid to change your niche
So many people go into blogging thinking they will be writing about that topic forever. And while it’s good to focus on a single site until you at least get between 75–100 articles (in my opinion) that doesn’t mean you only have to write about that topic forever!
I have sites on a massive range of topics that I enjoy learning, doing, researching, and writing about.
Some are easier for me to write articles about (like blogging/writing on this account) but I enjoy writing on them all at different times. There is nothing stopping you from starting multiple sites in totally different niches and writing on whatever subject you want to on that particular day.
Just because you picked a certain niche when you first started blogging doesn’t mean you have to stay with that one forever. You can always change to work on a different one.
So don’t spend too much time agonizing over the choice like it’s the end of the world if you pick wrongly… cause it isn’t.
Many people consider starting a blog. Maybe because they have seen some other people have success, maybe because they have watched some Youtube videos about it (like the ones on my channel), or maybe they have just heard about it somewhere.
Whatever the reason, many people consider starting a blog or trying to write for a living.
But often these same people let their own fear of not being a great writer (or a perfect one) stop them from starting at all. Let me share something with you…
YOU DON”T HAVE TO BE A PERFECT WRITER!
Not only do you not need to be a perfect writer to succeed as a blogger but you don’t even have to be a great writer. As long as you can string your thoughts together into a cohesive article then you can be a blogger and make money from doing it.
I don’t say that without anything to back it up either.
I’m far from the best writer in the world. Matter of fact, English, Spelling, and Writing were subjects that I hated with a passion when I was in school.
I remember staying up most of the night multiple times in high school working on a paper that was due the following day because I had procrastinated for so long. I just hated writing so I would put it off and put it off until the last possible moment.
There was even one time in college when I was writing the last bit of my paper as I was sitting in a class!
Being good at traditional writing is not a requirement for being a good blogger. And even if you are a great writer you should probably relax those rigid rules a bit so you can be a better blogger!
So if you aren’t a perfect blogger what should you be instead?
Don’t be perfect, be unique
Most of the time when people go to a blog they don’t just go to get information. If someone is looking for just bland, boring info they will go to Wikipedia. But your blog is different (or it should be).
There are many things in your life that are unique to you.
Maybe it’s your experiences in that niche. Maybe it’s the things that you have done in your life. Maybe it’s simply the mistakes that you have made.
I don’t know what it is but I promise you that there are many unique things about you that you can elaborate on and share in your blog posts.
A lot of my articles here involve me sharing some unique or interesting perspectives or things that I have learned in my almost 3 years of blogging. What have you learned over your lifetime that you can share with others too?
Giving a unique thought, perspective, or even test that you have done will help keep your readers engaged and keep them coming back to read more.
An example of this would be my Medium.com account. I created it as a test to see how much money I could actually make on Medium and if it would be worth my time. That’s a test that I can share on my blog or Youtube channel to help other people.
I’m also currently running a test with my Medium account. I am publishing an article every single day during the month of August to see if that increases my income. I’m then going to only publish once a week in September and see what that does to my income, reads, and views.
Figure out a way that you can run a test in your niche that will help provide the reader with something that is unique.
Don’t be perfect, share your mistakes
Not only do people feel like they have to be a perfect writers but often they feel like they have to write as if they are perfect and know everything. Let me tell you…
You don’t know everything and neither do I!
So stop trying to frame yourself as being perfect or knowing everything in your niche and instead share your mistakes and failures too.
In a few weeks, I’m going to be sharing my blogging income on my Youtube channel. I’m going to be talking about my successes and also the failures that I have made along the way.
When you are transparent and share your stories of failures or mistakes that you have made, it makes you relate more to your readers. Plus it will help them to avoid those same mistakes as well.
Sharing the stories of your mistakes doesn’t make you look like less of a person… it simply makes you look human. And ultimately we all love reading stories about success and failures so you will help your readers stay on your posts longer which is good for earnings and for SEO.
Don’t be perfect, nobody will read it
Who wants to read the perfect article with perfect grammar from a perfect writer? Virtually no one as they are called academic papers and they are as boring as all get out.
I feel like this is one of the main issues with the AI writing software that is currently on the market. They might help you get out content faster but the content that you put out will be absolutely perfect with no human element to it.
Those human elements like stories, anecdotes, etc. are what make those blog posts worthy of being read. When you share what you know or what you have learned and how you know or learned it, you let the reader know that you can be trusted.
AI software (and writers who are trying to be perfect) will end up putting out articles that are full of facts and figures. And while that might work in some niches, in many of them it won’t work well at all.
Say for example, that I am wanting to buy a new minivan. I head to Google and search for the best minivans. All I will find is a bunch of stats comparing them most of the time. But if instead, I search for “best minivan Reddit” it will pull up a bunch of Reddit posts of real people talking about their real experiences with their minivans.
That is the kind of blog content that you should strive to write.
Articles that are helpful by giving stats and information but also that share important things that you’ve learned in your niche, that you like or don’t like about a product, etc.
Don’t try to write a bunch of academic papers for blog posts. Instead, write imperfect articles that will actually help your readers in some way.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, trying to be a perfect writer will often end up with your writing being boring and uninteresting. So don’t try to be perfect.
Instead, try to share what you know in a way that makes sense to you as the writer while also making sense to the reader.
If when writing a blog post you concentrate on making sure to provide as much helpful information, experiences, tests, etc. then your reader will stick around to read more and more of what you have written.
Everyone loves to write articles quickly for their blogs, Medium, or whatever site they write on. I mean why wouldn’t we want to speed up our writing process to produce more content?
Right?
But here’s the problem… when you focus on producing more content, often the content you produce goes down in quality. Now, this certainly isn’t always the case… but it easily can be.
When we are focused on speed and getting more and more articles out the articles we put out can easily become… subpar (okay crappy).
How do I know this?
Because I’m guilty of it too.
I’ve recently been working on one of my blogging websites and although the articles are good… they are far from great. And the main reason why… is that I tried to produce more content.
So the last 5 articles that I’ve produced have taken me 6–8 hours of work to put together instead of the typical hour that I would normally spend. The articles have been 2500–4500 words with all sorts of images, tables, infographics, and more.
Essentially I created the absolute best possible post for that keyword instead of doing it halfway.
Now it’s far too early to tell how much better this will work than just producing content faster but I’m fully convinced that once it ranks at the top (I’m currently in position 6–8) for all the possible keywords and variations it will bring in thousands of pageviews a month.
And no one will want to compete with it either as who wants to put in all of that work?
So rather than trying to write as fast as possible here are the 5 things that I would recommend that you do instead.
1. Write articles that are thorough
Probably the biggest issue with trying to get articles done quickly is that you will just give surface-level information rather than take a deep dive into the subject.
Say for example you are writing an article about whether a memory foam pillow is hot.
If you are writing an article as fast as possible you might say that they aren’t hot and end, give a bit more info, and then move on to the next subheading.
However, if you are actually trying to give the best possible information and be thorough with your article you might talk about the different types of memory foam pillows and how they compare when it comes to how hot they are. You might write about how the pillowcase you choose makes a difference as well since some breath better than others.
By taking the time to write a better article and being more thorough with your information you will help the reader far more than when you just give surface information.
2. Write articles that fully answer the query
When you take your time to write an article not only will you be more thorough but you will also be able to fully answer the question in the best way possible.
Often the best way to fully answer a question isn’t just with text. To fully answer the query you might need to add a short video clip, create a table, make an infographic, etc. and that takes time.
If you are trying to write as fast as possible you won’t take the time to add in the information that fully answers the question or query that the keyword is asking. However, when you take the time and actually fully answer the query your article will be far more helpful and rank far higher.
People want to get their query answered in a single article but often they have to read a few articles, watch a few YouTube videos, and then piece it all together themselves.
How about instead of making your reader do that… fully answer the entire query in your blog post/article.
3. Write articles that answer the reader’s next logical question
Once you fully answer the query or the intent of the original keyword to write a complete article you need to then move on to answer what their next logical question would be.
Back to our example from earlier about a memory foam pillow is hot, what could the next logical question be that you could answer in the next section?
Well obviously they are concerned about their pillow being hot in bed, so why not expand on that and have a section about how to cool down any pillow or about which memory foam pillow is the coolest option?
This is kind of a guessing game as obviously each reader might have something different that they are thinking about next but if the original query or keyword is specific enough then you can certainly take a very educated guess about what subheading might interest them.
4. Write articles that are over-the-top helpful
So now you’ve answered the original query or thought from the keyword, given a full answer and been as thorough as possible, and written a subheading or two that help them with their next obvious thought… what next?
The next thing I would say to do is to make that article over the top helpful.
I’m talking so fricking helpful that when someone comes and reads your article they are blown away by how much information it gives them and how helpful everything in the article is.
A good example of this would be a recent article I wrote for one of my sites. All of the internet had the same specs for the item… but didn’t have any of the specs for all the variations of the item.
So I spent probably 30–45 minutes going through and doing the math to give the specs for every single variation of the item.
Before I created that article that information was nowhere on the internet as no one wanted to take the time to do the math on all of the specs. So now my article is the only one on the internet that truly answers the questions that people have about that item in every possible way.
That is over-the-top helpful!
5. Write articles that keep the reader’s attention
The last thing that happens when trying to write as fast as possible is that you often put out boring articles.
Why do people use AI software like Jasper to write their articles? It’s not because they think it makes their writing better. It’s because they are trying to speed up their writing.
And by using software like that they wrote boring articles like everyone else.
Seriously stop writing the same old boring junk as everyone else and add some personality to your articles. Share how you did or tried something that did or didn’t work.
Tell stories about how you used a product or service and it went well (or didn’t).
In your writing try to find a way to incorporate stories from your life and experiences that help to further explain the concept or item that you are writing about.
Then not only will your articles be more entertaining but people will read more of them… which means better rankings and better ad revenue as well.
If you follow my Youtube channel (or this blog) at all you know that I’ve been blogging for almost 3 years now. In those 3 years, I’ve learned a lot in regard to how to blog, how to make money with blogging, and a lot more.
A lot of that I’ve shared on here already but one thing I’ve never really talked about is the steps that I took to build my largest site.
That site turned two years old in January/February of 2022 but prior to that two-year anniversary, it had a monthly high of almost 225,000 page views last December!
