Trying to pick a niche is something that many new bloggers struggle with. Often a new blogger will spend hours, days, or weeks agonizing over what niche to choose.

And sometimes they will spend so long worrying about picking a niche that they won’t start for months or years, always trying to learn more so they can “get started right”.

So if this is you let me help you out a bit. Here is the absolute best niche that you should choose for your blog.

The best niche for your blog is… something you already do.

It doesn’t matter what it is. It doesn’t matter how good you are at it. All that matters is that it is something that you do all of the time that you can share stories, mistakes, successes, and failures, about.

I have this website about blogging/writing because I actually write normally and have done so for almost 3 years. I write about blogging because I’ve owned multiple blogs for 2 ½ years now.

Pick a niche that you know

Picking a niche that you actually know something about to blog/write about is invaluable as a blogger. It can literally mean the difference between success and failure.

  • When you know a niche your writing will be far faster and much easier.
  • When you know a niche you will be able to share little tips and tricks with your readers that most people wouldn’t know.
  • When you know a niche you can share personal stories from that niche.

These things (and more) will allow your articles to be much more readable and will also help your readers to tell that you know what you are talking about.

When you don’t know much (or anything) about a niche your writing about that niche will come off as bland and boring. It will also come off as uneducated to the people who are ingrained in the niche as they will be able to tell that you don’t know what you are talking about.

Take my writing about blogging as an example.

If I were to write an article talking about how you can’t make any real money with display ads, people who are in the industry would know that I have no idea what I was talking about.

But since I’ve been in the industry for almost 3 years I know that you can make really good money by putting ads on your blog site, especially when your blog is big enough to get in the major players like Mediavine and Adthrive.

When you aren’t actually in a niche you won’t know a lot of little things about it. And not knowing those little things can add up to a massive loss of credibility with your readers.

Pick a niche that you won’t mind writing about for a long time

All of us know and are involved in many different niches. I’m currently sitting in bed writing this article on my iPhone while Criminal Minds streams on Hulu on my TV in the background.

That right there is a ton of different niches I could choose from:

  • Writing
  • iPhones
  • Apple
  • Smartphones
  • Tv
  • Tv shows
  • Criminal minds
  • Hulu
  • Streaming
  • Soundbar
  • Bed
  • Pillow
  • Blanket

Now all of those would be niches that I could write about but most of them wouldn’t be very good as they aren’t something that I would want to write about for a long time.

I absolutely love writing about writing/blogging. I get to share everything that I’ve learned over the last 3 years and also get to explain new tests that I’m actively working on with my blogs.

When choosing a niche you need to find something that is like that for you.

Maybe you are an absolute movie buff and you go to see every single new movie in a specific genre when it’s released. You could certainly start a blog about that (although it might not be very evergreen).

Maybe you love playing guitar and taught yourself how to play over the last few years. You could absolutely start a blog about that and share your knowledge.

Ultimately you have to find something that you actively participate in, that you know at least something about, and that you would enjoy writing at least a decent amount about.

Can I tell you another secret about niches?

Don’t be afraid to change your niche

So many people go into blogging thinking they will be writing about that topic forever. And while it’s good to focus on a single site until you at least get between 75–100 articles (in my opinion) that doesn’t mean you only have to write about that topic forever!

I have sites on a massive range of topics that I enjoy learning, doing, researching, and writing about.

Some are easier for me to write articles about (like blogging/writing on this account) but I enjoy writing on them all at different times. There is nothing stopping you from starting multiple sites in totally different niches and writing on whatever subject you want to on that particular day.

Just because you picked a certain niche when you first started blogging doesn’t mean you have to stay with that one forever. You can always change to work on a different one.

So don’t spend too much time agonizing over the choice like it’s the end of the world if you pick wrongly… cause it isn’t.
